Effects of the Industrial Revolution
There were many effects in the Industrial Revolution. And as an English journalist I was able to visit the factories and was able to record what I had seen. Just to recap the Industrial Revolution was a time period between the 1800’s to the 1900’s. Technology, labor laws, working conditions, inventions, agriculture and much more changed over the course of this time. Starting in the United Kingdom is where it all changed. This was a huge outcome to people later on.
A few positive effects that this revolution had in the end are the following. Modern Inventions became a huge hit, many people created new things that changed the society dramatically. The doctors were able to come up with a vaccine to treat a more severe diseases in the future. It may sound confusing but they would inject the patient with cowpox and it would prevent them from getting a worse case of anything later on. Light bulbs were also created, this made it so that they didn’t have to waste coal/gas for gas lamps anymore. They were able to actually have light in their home, other then just the sun during the day. Another huge invention that was created was the X-ray. This has been helpful to the doctors find out what was wrong with the sick and ill. Industrial Production is another positive effect that occurred during the revolution. Industrial Production was when Britain became the leader of the production. Britain was smart and figured that the machinery was cheap so they bought it and was able to become a huge leader during this time. Since the machinery was so cheap and useful, it was a great item to invest in. Britain becoming a large part in manufacturing brought them a lot of cash at the time. Another thing was that. Modern Buildings were created and was able to solve the problem of overcrowded population in the towns. In London they built apartments 5 or 6 stories high which was able to save space. But along came the upper class and they decided to move towards west of the factories so that the smog of the factory wouldn’t blow towards their homes.
Even though there were a wide variety of positives that occurred, long came the negatives of each event. Changing class structure is a big deal. Almost everybody moved into an urban city to work in the factories to have some type of income. But because they were all moving and working, no type of class structure changed. The lower class were always lower class. There was no moving up in the social chain.Throughout 1750-1850 there were many things wrong with civilization. The crime rate has been increasing, due to lack of charge. There were terrible living conditions because no one thought about the waste and wear it would end up. Because of the waste throughout the streets, there were diseases like the measles, typhoid and cholera spread incredibly quickly. When city workers went to work in the factory there life expectancy was around 17 years old. Where as farmers, there was 38 years. This was due to terrible living conditions in the cities. During the Industrial Revolution most women moved to urban areas and worked in factories creating cloth and what not. For women using heavy machinery isn’t acceptable, specially for the working conditions weren’t safe for women. A few conditions that women had to work in, was that they had to wear long skirts and keep their hair in ponytails. There uniforms were extremely dangerous their hair and skirt were able to get caught in the machines and create problems. Because women were constantly working their was no one to take care of the children. There was a lot of education loss due to this.
Even though there was a lot wrong with the society back then, there was simple ways to correct all these negatives. For an example, since there were so many people working in the factory for years and years. The ones in charge could’ve paid them more or given them better working conditions. That way they can get work done efficiently and safe. Also instead of leaving children home unattended they could have had a school where the children were educated. Also Urbanization, because the crime rate was so high and nobody was in charge they could have easily fixed that. Organising some type of police force would have changed the crime rate incredibly. Changing class structure was a significant time of positive outcomes but there were always negatives that came along with it. If only there was a way where the poor were able to work their way up from the status they were. It would have increased the workload because all lower class would have wanted to become something more and it would have given hope to the poor. These were just a few ways on how simple things could have been improved.
Witnessing all that had happened in this time period I think that there were much positive but also simple negatives that could have been turned around easily. I wish the future the best. I hope that someday humans will come up with inventions that won’t only bring joy but least amount of side effects as possible. With all thats said I had a phenomenal life. Getting to see all that has changed in society within 100 years is amazing.
