The Art of Construction
The Art of Construction was a project we did that was mostly involved creating shape with either a compass or a straight edge(a ruler but without using any measurements). The Purpose of this project was for us to learn and get more involved with different types of shapes and points that we haven't really drawn before. Another reason for doing this project was for us to get more practice at using compass so that in the future we know how to make a perfect square of line or circle if we were to make an art piece or for any reason. Then we needed to create any picture we wanted to make but the picture we created had to have squares triangle and or circles. After we created the image we wanted to use then we got to pick how we wanted to present them, weather if it was on a canvas using oil crayons or on a piece of cardboard using paint.

This was my Benchmark #1. I created this with just a pencil, paper and compass and a straight edge. I chose to do this image because I liked how the sun moon and the star all combined and blend so well with each other and how smooth the transition was from the moon to the sun. I also really like the detail there was with the stars and sun rays. Instead of using lined paper or blank paper I decided to use graph paper so that it was easier to draw lines straight.
This was my Benchmark #2. I created this piece by using the same tools as I did for benchmark #1.Compass and a straight edge. I first made a point in the middle of the paper and with that mark I used a compass and lined up the pointy edge with the mark and from there I created a circle filling up about 3/4 of the page. After I drew the circle I drew a line going straight through the circle leading to the top and bottom of the page. After that I created a star in the top of the circle, I created this by using a compass and a straight edgeI drew 2 circles and when the overlapped each other I marked the point and drew and line from both sides running through it, I did this for each triangle to create the star.I also used this same method for when I drew the sun rays on the right side of the paper. When I drew the eyes on the moon and star I drew 2 circle side by side and created an oval out of the 2 circle's. I did this for each eye. Then I used a straight edge to create the eye lashes. After I did that I drew small circles leading them to look like stars by the moon.
This was my first draft of my final art piece. For me to be able to create this I need a compass, straight edge, pencil and paper. I chose to do this image because I wanted to show how sun moon and the star are really important and f you look really close they all blend perfect together with the darkness of the moon the sweet yellow of the star and the colorful orange and blue sky of the sun.Th steps I had to take to create my final piece was to draw each shape out then color in the shapes with the right colors using colored pencils, markers and crayons. I decide to use these materials because the outcome of all these materials combined created a really cool texture.
Through out this project I feel one of my biggest strengths was the mix of colors and the texture I created within the drawing. One of my biggest obstacles in this project was patience because I always wanted to get straight to coloring in the shapes instead of taking my time and making sure all my triangles were either 30 60 or 90 degrees. A few obstacles that got in my way was the compass use, the compass was always moving whenever needed to draw a perfect circle, another obstacle was the triangles and all the different types of degrees I had to draw. A solution I had for the compass the I bought my own that I new would surely work. This project was really fun and artistic and everything we did had a good meaning and purpose so I would not change the project. One habit of mathematics I thought I did really well at was detail and I thought I did really well with detail even though I felt I could've put more neatness into my final piece.
