The images below are a few drafts of a mini project we did in art. In this assignment we were told to pick any two items we wanted to choose and with those two images we were supposed to combine them. For an example my teacher showed pulled up a painting a student did 2 years ago of a grenade and flowers. The grenade in this image was the vase that the flowers sat in. I was still able to tell that it was a grenade because of the significant detail. So at first I had a really hard time picking 2 images. I was very hard on myself at first about how the painting had to be exactly perfect and it had to have meaning behind it. I then wasted probably about a day picking a few images. I then decided whatever screw it so I just chose a sun and a moon. My process for each draft was tracing the image onto tracing paper then penciling over the entire image. Next I outlined the image again but onto painting paper. The penciling made it so that the outline would come out nice and clear.
The painting in the top left corner was my first draft. I think my first was just the idea I had and I was just testing the colors I wanted to use. I knew that this was the first draft from the start because through out the process I was accidentally dropping my paintbrush making marks onto the white paper, and it just looked like mess. Even though I knew what I need to fix for my 2nd draft I still got critique from 3 people and they wrote their critique on my first draft. Through out all my drafts I was taking critique and asking questions from my teacher. My second draft is in the middle and I took this draft very seriously I felt like it was somewhat organized but I could defiantly improve on it and I found the colors that were right for the image. Then my final draft is the one to the way right painting and I decided to change it up and I wanted to mess around with the colors but still in a serious sense that this could be my final draft. So as you can see instead of a blue background I changed it to purple. I did this because I was already using a blue color in my moon/sun so I wanted to have different colors. Then I changed the color of the moon and sun and made it opposite colors. I think overall my favorite was my final draft just because it was something different then I have seen before. Through out this process I learned about myself mostly. Before I started this I was like I can't paint at all, Im not creative so it is what it is. But then I learned that even though I may no be the most artist artist I can still try my best and I could achieve what I knew I could overcome. So I think from here on out I think I just can't be as hard on myself as I have been. Below are the images that I based my paintings off of. Theres the Sun and a Moon and I just combined them.
This image is of an elephant I also created because my teacher said he wanted me to create a painting bases off of a drawing. So unlike the sun and moon I traced a drawing of an elephant. This was defiantly more challenging because I only had a day left of this project to complete this single painting. As I went along I learned a lot about how much color to use for shadows and outlining. I think I defiantly learned more in this one image then I did overall 3 images/drafts of my sun and moon. So the painting to the left is my first draft and I was really rushing it and I got critique from my teacher and he started talking to me about not using to much color so I instantly stopped what I was doing, which is why it's unfinished and I started a brand new one.
The image to the left is the image I based my elephants above off of.
