Today was my first day as an intern, it mostly consisted of getting to know the workspace and going over more about the project that we will be creating, then reading different articles that relate to the subject so I have a better understanding of what aspects will be involved. I was most shocked by how many different facilities there were within NOAA, meeting a variety of people that are working on different projects was learning itself, by seeing how many unique forms within marine biology that people have chosen to focus on . With that my colleagues are all very nice and open to letting me ask them questions about their research. Walking around with my mentor I can tell the workplace is a friendly environment due to everyone saying Hi to each other and there wasn't one person my mentor didn't know. The other employees seemed interested in the project that I am going to be working on and suggested a few places to visit that they felt would be an educational field trip. What strikes me the most is how I will actually be making a difference to the community. Im excited to be able to have access to the research and getting a chance to see live labs. The only thing I am worried about is not knowing as much information about this project as some of the guest that I will be working with like the fisherman, but I know this will easily become resolved in the next couple days. Because I have been going through articles related to Fishery Management.
